We Won The Cup

The days seem to start at a bitterly cold 8 C (46 F), but the temperature soon climbs to around 16 or 17 C (63 F). Today was no exception, and it was a delightful morning on the trail.

Eleven strimming supremos made it this morning. Matt, Reece, Marcus, Ian, Mark, Steve, Martin, Dave, Ram, Andrew, and Paul managed to cover about 800 metres, which is a record distance.

The task in hand is to strim about half a metre on the path edge to keep the path defined and stop the wildflowers and grass from flopping into the trail, and everyone ending up getting bug-bites on their legs.

We did a cracking job.

We have new wildflowers in the areas where we cleared scrub during the winter.

This looks like Rosebay Willow-herb, but we will see.

We broke for a welcome coffee and nibbles at half-time.

And that gave us the opportunity to congratulate Marcus and Steve on their football team willing the Championship League, and being promoted to the Premier League.

Just a little keepsake.

We were soon back at it.

Clearing around the benches is a must.

I’m not sure if the camera shows what we are trying to do.

We are trying to keep the bugs in their lane, and the humans in the other lane. Critters are not getting trampled and no one is getting bitten. Hopefully, everyone is happy.

Me and Nathan reinstalled the Cawston Girl Guides bench in a better location at the weekend.

It’s a nice spot to sit and enjoy the views up and down the path, or across Lawford Heath.

It works very well here.

We did the obligatory litter pick.

Really happy to find almost no litter across a mile or so of the path.

And found the rakes that we had hidden about 18 months ago!!

The phrase, “hiding in plain sight” comes to mind…

And lastly, we used almost all of our power today.

A massive distance covered.

It was me and Ian last Friday, and we covered a good distance.

Lovely bluebells have come up in pink, white, and the normal blue. This is where we have cleared the scrub back over the last winter.

It feels nice and welcoming on this bit of the path, it’s a little quieter than the Cawston trail, and a bit more out into the countryside. I like it.

We broke for coffee and joked about the Catchweed Bedstraw that is everywhere.

It’s common name is Sticky Willy, which always brings out a schoolboy chuckle, no matter how old the joke is…

Next one is at the Birdfeeder Clearing pushing on southwards. If we continue at this rate we will keep it in perfect order throughout the summer.

Until next time!

Sticky Willy… 🤭🤭 Lovely flowers and that’s a long distance covered, nice work. Why don’t you use petrol powered (gas) weed whips as we call them? Everything is greening up beautifully, it looks great! 👍🏻😎
